The subtle touch of emotional branding

How often do you Google yourself?

How often do you Google your name and company name to see what's out there? Once a month? Once a week? Everyday? Recently one of my clients had his account hacked, and we spent two days trying to clear it up. Well, not really, the tech team spent two days clearing it up. It just so happens that the hacker accessed his website and added two files that were loaded with viruses. We think they were there for about a week before they were noticed. Fortunately, Google noticed it when they were indexing the site and they put one of those big, blaring red labels that says "WARNING, THIS SITE MAY LOAD YOUR COMPUTER WITH A VIRUS" - Not good for a brand, eh? I am really impressed with Zappos!

I attended a lecture where Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com, was the keynote speaker. His newest book is called “Delivering Happiness” and it came at just the right moment. Tony discussed with the attendees how we can use the example of this Billion Dollar company to create the perfect environment in which to grow our own businesses by focusing on our company culture. Tony’s commitment to the right company culture and their core values is beneficial to us all. He invited us to order a free copy of an annual “Culture Book” that they publish, which includes the thoughts of their employees, partners and customers.

I received my book today, exactly one week since the lecture, and I’m diving in. They say they’ve included the good, the bad and the ugly so you know what I’m looking for right? The ugly! I want to know what unfavorable things people are saying and have experienced with this brand. There’s always one… and not that I’m the type of person to seek out the negative AT ALL in a person or company, but Zappos is so pristine that I have to discover something in the pages of this 350-page hard cover book… Read the full article... →

Learn to live a Bold, Brilliant and Rich Life

I just returned from a Miami business/pleasure trip for 5 days and one of the highlights of my trip, Karen Fagan, was the week’s inspiration.

While we were there we posted some videos of Karen working out. She started indoors lifting weights and then took it out to the beach for a run. We posted the video on Facebook and it was all they (the attendees of the conference) could talk about for the whole week. Here’s why: Karen is one of those rare kick-butt beauties that not only has a brain on her head but also the compassion to share it.

She’s a life coach (such a weak description for what she really does) and knows exactly what it takes to help women feel empowered and act on it. Happy Labor Day! I rarely recommend videos but this new video that popped up on YouTube is so innovative it needs to be shared all over the web. WARNING: There is some profanity in the first few seconds, so I advise you to mute the sound before you play it, you don’t need the sound to enjoy the video anyway.
