Buying Domain Name Misspellings
Yesterday I was at a large client event and had the privilege of speaking to several stakeholders for the company. The team had put together several success stories and profiles for their funders (it was a not-for-profit organization) and I was included in their profiles. As I browsed their brochure I noticed a few typos, but the most prevalent of which was my domain name… it was spelled wrong!
They spelled it www.BrandExcitment.com, instead of “Excitement” – they forgot the “E.” What a bummer right? Well, when I arrived home I hopped online and purchased that domain name for $10 to redirect to the correct page. I figure, you never know who’s going to see that brochure today, tomorrow, a month from now, go to that domain name and not figure out that the word excitement is spelled wrong. Why take a chance? Instead I have now purchased the domain and parked it at my main site so that if any traffic comes through that domain I’ll capture it.
Have you noticed misspellings in how your business is described or presented? What actions did you take to rectify it?
