The Biggest Pro and Con of Publishing a Newsletter
There are several advantages publishing your own newsletter can offer to you. Many pros and cons that I can list here but for starters I’d like to tell you the biggest pro and con that I’ve found in my business and that of my clients.
The most obvious reason being that it is easy to start and anyone can do it. Providers such as Constant Contact, Aweber and Mailchip have templates ready for you to customize with your own colors and logo, so all you need to do is add in your content.
The biggest benefit is that you build your own database and spread your marketing influence, making you more valuable to your client community than your competitor.
The biggest obstacle, or challenge that I’ve found is that authors have a difficult time creating their content. They find it intimidating and tiresome, especially those who do not consider themselves to be writers. It’s intimidating to put thoughts to paper (or screen) or to think of interesting topics on a frequent basis without running out of ideas.
One way that I suggest taking care of this problem is to create your content titles in advance. You can compile 30 days worth of content in one day, for example, by using Google’s Keyword Search feature. By kicking off a keyword search with just one of two terms you’ll see a spin-off of a myriad of ideas and soon have more than enough article ideas for a newsletter. Even if you’re sending your newsletter every week you’ll be able to come up with 52 topics, or break them down to 12 monthly series topics.
Alternatively, you can republish articles from article directories such as http://ezinearticles.com/ and present the article writers as “guest authors”. This is a free method you can use in making content, provided you include the resource box of the original author and that the article has republishing rights conveyed.
In conclusion, you can easily build a steady stream of leads, and tackle the content creation challenge by making the decision to publish a newsletter and setting a plan in motion to make it happen.
